About the artist:
Lawrence Hollingsworth, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, derived his inspiration
for painting from country landscapes during his travels as an antiques importer. He
studied art history and the styles and painting techniques of such notable painters as
Monet, Turner, Constable, Corot, Sargent, et.al. and is self-taught.
About the artist's work:
The primary subject matter of Lawrence Hollingsworth's work is landscape, the human figure, and still life.
Brilliant colors and rich texture pervade his paintings and his signature style may best be characterized as generally
impressionistic although he possesses the unique ability to paint in abstract and realistic styles as well. He has as
much potential as I have seen in any emerging artist in some time and combines energy and confidence in every brush
stroke. His medium is oil on canvas or linen.

Artist's statement:
"It is my expressed intent to depict the myriad of colors, shapes, light, and complex features found in nature
through the rich visual language of painting. Beyond the apparent images of nature there is also a greater dimension that
I believe can only be expressed through our human senses and not from technological means. I hope that
my paintings may enrich the lives of all who view them and that they will foster a new appreciation of our
natural world."
Education:
Mr. Hollingsworth received his Undergraduate and Master's Degrees from Old Dominion
University and his Doctorate Degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He
currently resides in Gloucester, Virginia.
